The condition of the skin, hair, and nails is directly connected to the food we consume. Skin is especially influenced by our diet because it is the largest organ of the human body. All the troubles with the internal organs, hormones, etc., are first to manifest on the skin with acne, rashes and other conditions. And no amount of creams, lotions, and tonics will really help reverse the situation until the diet is changed in one way or another.
Food doesn’t only help with current problems, it can also help prevent premature wrinkles and keep your skin glowing, bright, and youthful.
Here are a few food items that are proven to be beneficial for your hair, skin, and nails and the reasons why you need to eat them.
Nuts
Nuts are one of the best-known foods that are great for the skin. Most of them are rich in vitamin E that is essential for repairing skin tissue and protecting the body from UV rays.
Walnuts are a great source of omega-3 fatty acids that can give your skin a beautiful youthful glow. You can include nuts in your diet using a few simple ways: having them as a healthy snack, adding them to salads or even cakes and cookies. You need to eat nuts, so might as well make it fun!
An interesting frosting for a cake that would complement the nuts nicely as well is Italian meringue buttercream. This light and decadent cream can be used for a variety of desserts. And it requires only a few simple ingredients.
You need to start with making sugar syrup for which you will need a candy thermometer. While it is boiling, beat the egg whites to soft peaks. Slowly pour in the syrup down the side of the bowl with the mixer still running. Mix the meringue on high until it reaches room temperature. The last step would be to start incorporating soft butter and any additional flavors. When the buttercream is done, either use it immediately or refrigerate in an airtight container.
Spinach
Another known superfood that’s been very popular lately and you need to eat is spinach. It is full of vitamin K that gives it this rich green color and it’s a great plant source of iron. Spinach can be obviously used as a salad base, added to smoothies or cooked in sauces. I’d recommend trying it out in an omelette in a bag. This simpler version of a regular omelet is light and fluffy and can have as many different fillings and toppings of your choice. Do the following steps the night before for an even easier breakfast recipe.
Crack and whisk the eggs in a ziplock bag, add water, fillings and spices. Squeeze as much air out as possible and mix everything around. Place the bag in boiling water and cook until the eggs are completely set. Remove the omelet from the bag and garnish with toppings like avocado, salsa or herbs.
Red Bell Peppers
Red bell peppers are full of antioxidants and vitamin C that are responsible for collagen production and can help keep your skin looking youthful without cosmetic procedures. This is just one of the many reasons that you need to eat red bell peppers.
Bell peppers can be eaten as a snack with hummus, cooked with other veggies in a stir-fry or obviously added to salads. This oriental chicken salad, for example, already has almonds in it, plus you can substitute lettuce for spinach and add a red bell pepper for a massive health boost.
Slice up the chicken breast into strips, coat them in beaten eggs and then the flour, fry for 3-4 minutes until golden brown. To assemble the salad, mix sliced cabbage, carrots, cucumbers or any other vegetables of your choosing. Add the chicken, almonds and dry chow mein, top with a honey dressing and enjoy!
Papayas
Papayas are an awesome tropical fruit rich in vitamins, calcium, and potassium. If you want to improve skin elasticity and have anti-aging affects on your skin, then you need to eat papaya!
Fresh papaya can be a great snack or a part of a vibrant smoothie. You can also make face masks with it for maximum effect!
Broccoli
Last but not least, one of the foods that you need to eat, regardless of whether you hate or love, is broccoli.
Broccoli is obviously great for your body because it’s full of fiber and vitamin C that can improve your skin condition. Try adding it to a noodle stir-fry and see if you still hate it!
